Loving the Nikon Z 14-30mm f/4 S
Under Route 95 in Providence, Rhode Island. Nikon ZF with Nikkor 14-30mm F/4 S
Even though I have been shooting across multiple decades using multiple camera systems, I have never owned a truly ultra-wide angle lens. Having switched from Fujifilm to Nikon, I felt it was time to add an ultra-wide angle. After much research and obsessing, I spent time I chose the Nikkor Z 14-30mm F/4 S lens.
During my research, I did not come across a single negative review and Nikon’s description of this lens is spot on:
A compact and portable ultra-wide zoom with a fixed f/4 aperture, top-notch NIKKOR image quality and sharpness throughout the entire frame. Essential for travel, adventure, events, and wide-angle video applications. Impressive aberration correction, smooth, quiet autofocus and breakthrough performance, all inside the first filter-attachable full-frame/FX format ultra-wide NIKKOR lens ever.
The technical merits of this lens are well documented. Instead of a technical breakdown, I want to share my initial images from a Nikon ZF and the 14-30mm f/4 S lens.
All images were shot in JPEG. The long-exposure images were taken with the K&F Concept 82mm ND1000 (10-Stop Fixed Neutral Density) ND Filter with at least a 30-second exposure. I transferred the files from the ZF to my phone and did quick edits using Lightroom Mobile. With or without the ND filter, the resulting files remained uniformly sharp with deep rich colors.
